creative dissent: an experiment in integrated art/life practice

it is increasingly apparent that natural ecosystems are dynamic, and that this process of change is integral to the way they function, as well as vital to the survival of ecological diversity. in the field, working to conserve and to restore natural ecosystems presents many problems, practical and theoretical, but conservation practice is increasingly about listening to and learning to understand these systems, defending or creating autonomous spaces in which natural processes can take place.

this process of entering into an observant and dynamic relationship with an ecosystem is a context in which it is possible to learn much about the world and ourselves.

volunteering on conservational projects is a direct encounter with the landscape, and a chance to learn from people with specialist knowledge and experience.

projects on which i have volunteered in the past include handa island nature reserve and the trees for life forest restoration project in glen affric and the surrounding area.
